Going Green – Education for Sustainability is back! We are launching the new project cycle 2018/2019 a little later than planned, but that is why we have extended it to the end of the school year instead of keeping our previous April Earth Day deadline.
What is new?
- We are in the process of matching six American and six German school classes to collaborate on Going Green. We thank our colleagues at TOP in Washington D.C. for making this possible.
- Our newly designed curriculum for an interdisciplinary project week "Power to the People" has been tested by a number of schools and is open for enrollment.
- Our “regular” curriculum is updated and waiting for you to be implemented. As always, you can select from various activities and materials, or you can cover all of the online materials. The curriculum is flexible and can be adapted to your needs and the students’ abilities.
What we are planning
2019 marks the 250th anniversary of Alexander von Humboldt’s birthday. In her book "The Invention of Nature", biographer Andrea Wulf portrays Humboldt as the "father of the environmental movement", the first "green" so to speak, who understood "the concept of nature as we know it today." Many events are already in the planning stages, especially here in Berlin, and we would like to include a brief module on Alexander von Humboldt in our curriculum. In fact, we are planning to dedicate our Going Green cycle 2018-19 to this global citizen. We hope to have a brief lesson plan as an introductory module to Going Green by the end of the year.
Why you should participate
Going Green is meant to inspire you and your students to participate actively in combating climate change. That is an ambitious goal. Instead of letting "bad" news such as the recent report on global warming by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) get to us, we suggest following the New York Times’ call for action: "Stopping Climate Change Is Hopeless. Let’s Do It."
We firmly believe that everybody can make a difference.
